2D Graphical Data Representation Software – Download JColorGrid Free
JColorGrid is a free application software that can be used to show numbers or text in 2-D color blocks. The software exists as a command-line application, a graphical viewer, and an API for development.
JColorGrid is created by Marcin P. Joachimiak, Jennifer L. Weisman and Barnaby C. H. May of the University of California.
JColorGrid is written in Java & hence it can be used on any computer. The software converts numerical data or textual data into color codes that is represented as color grids, much like heat maps.
Color-grid representations provide an excellent means of illustrating complex data sets and can be used to identify trends, clusters and extremes in a given data set.
JColorGrid can be used very easily in scientific analysis, business data analysis as well as for simpler data analysis for educational purposes by school students. Using JColorGrid is simple.

The free 2D data representation software comes with an excel input data sheet. Data is entered into JColorGrid from a spreadsheet file (.xls) or a tab-delimited text file.
Titles, row and colomn headings, scale titles and data are specified in input file. JColorGrid will represent both numerical and text data. There is no limit on the number of columns and rows.
The final output is easily configured through a menu screen. Configuring the output color-grid is done using the JColorGrid configuration menu. Display colors can be specified for the data range, as well as for data the requires special handling, called exceptions.
In addition to that, the gradient of the color scale can be configured through the configuration menu user interface. JColorGrid will create 2-D heat map like images both JPEG and EPS.
The final color-grid image result can be further modified in popular image editors.
