Books Gifts & Travel Guides at Borders

Amazon is good, but Borders is better! Simply because I personally like to flip though books, rad a few pages before I buy them. And I buy them a lot! Being a professional photographer & a travel writer myself, books are an essential companion to me.

And for the most part, I have shopped from Borders. The clerk at the counter has seen so much of me that she remembers my email address for the Preferred Member Card! The Border’s website is equally well designed & the discounts offered are fabulous.

Borders Jan 2009 has been a popular campaign from Borders to display a whole variety of new stock. From the usual text books to new editions of books about travel guides to a whole buch of novelty gift items, Border sells all of them from their online stores.

While you are on the Border website, be sure to check out the Competitions section. Though the awards change from time to time, this is a great page to compete for some great prizes. Right now as I am writing about this, there is a competition to meet up with Dave Gibbons! Dave is the creator of Watchmen & will be visiting several Border outlets to sign his newly released copies.

The other portion that I always look up on the web, is the recommendation section. This section is a quick recommendations from fellow readers. You can imagine many of the books listed here are being discussed over cups of coffee elsewhere!

In my opinion this section should also focus on new authors. A small write up or a biography of the new authors would help the readers get a better understanding of the artist before they jump into their books. I would also think reviews of peers could make this section more interesting, where one authors critiques another & finally shares their recommendations.
