Free & Automatic Ping Services for WordPress Blogs & websites – Pingomatic
Ping is the act of letting various web sites know that you have something new on your blog or websites. These web sites are usually news & post aggregators.
Typically you would ping these websites after you have made some updates to yours. Once you ping ed the websites, they would send their crawler to your blog or website & pick up the newer items that you have published.
They could then update their lists so that anyone who checks on their websites would see your new published materials.
If you are using WordPress software like I do, you have the advantage of a built in pinging tool within WordPress. Log into your account & click on the Write tab. Scroll to the bottom of the page where you see the Update Services text.
WordPress comes with http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ ping service as a default. You may also like to add a few more if you want.
WordPress supports Ping-O-Matic , an online, free pinging service. You could use the PingOMatic web page very easily. You type in your blog’s URL, type the RSS URL (this is optional), select the various Ping servers PingOMatic links too & click on the Ping button. The listed servers will immediately reach out to your website or blog & pick up your updates.

This apart, individual services, like Technorati, Yahoo!, Feedburners etc also have their ping services available for free from their individual websites.

I’m hoping that you can finally set us straight. Does wordpress automatically ping your blog? There is some plugin on it and a list of “ping-looking” links in the admin area, but then people always are saying to make sure you ping like at pingomatic or pingoat. So, if you didn’t have the plugin you would have to ping separately and if you did have it (and does it indeed?) and it automatically pings, then you would be spamming. We don’t have a squidoo account yet, but we also keep hearing to not ping your blog but rather to ping your squidoo?
And do you sign up for all those links at pingomatic? We have been searching forever for a definitive answer, and would really appreciate it. Thanks much.

There are some free hosting companies but I don’ t recommend using them. Some free web hosting companies bombard your site with ads that drive traffic away from your site, or clutter the content so much that the site doesn’ t look“ reputable.” …
