Florence is a free virtual keyboard for GNOME desktops & any other computers. If you are unable to use the physical keypad, either due to a broken keyboard or some physical handicap, you can use the free onscreen virtual keypad Florence from your computer screen.

Florence is easy to use & works very much like the touch screen virtual keyboards you have seen either on the iPhone or the Blackberry Storm, or even on the computers in various kiosks.

Florence is a free on-screen virtual keyboard. It is adapted for people who are able to use a pointing device but have difficulties using a real keyboard. It aims at being easy and pretty.

However, to use Florence, a touch screen is not essential. You can also use the Free Desktop Virtual Keyboard Florence with any pointing device like a mouse, a trackball or a touchscreen. Florence is designed to stay out of the way when you don’t need it. It appears on the screen only when you need it.

On Screen keyboard Florence has 3 working modes:

• auto-click mode – you don’t have to use any mouse button to use the keyboard. You just have to put the pointer over a key and a timer is triggered. If the pointer stays over the key until the timer expires, the key is automatically ‘clicked’ (pressed)

• auto-hide mode – hides itself when it detects you don’t need it. When this mode is off, Florence is always visible on the screen

The layout of the free virtual on-screen keyboard Florence can be extended with 3 extensions to the core keyboard. The arrows keypad is an extension added to the right of the core keyboard and contains the arrow keys along with navigation keys. The NUM pad extension contains the numeric keys and the function keys extension contains the function keys. Each extension can be activated and deactivated easily.
